Replacement windows and the stimulus tax credit

Did you know that not all windows qualify for the stimulus tax credit?  A window must have a U-Value of .30 or less and a SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) of .30 or less to qualify for any tax credit. 

Did you also know that your credit is 30% of cost UP TO A MAXIMUM of $1,500? 

There is a lot of incorrect information out there regarding the tax credit.  I spoke to a couple this week who got a price from another company to replace their 18 double hung windows for just over $19,000 and were told they would get 30% of that back as a credit. 

Another couple last week told me that after they were quoted just over $3,000 for 9 replacement windows the salesman said they would get $1,500 back as a tax credit. 

It’s simply not accurate.
