Don’t cover up your siding problems with vinyl siding

Vinyl siding is installed over your existing siding.  If you have any rotten surface wood you would hope that it would be replaced with fresh lumber before you new siding is installed, but what about the sheathing (wood) that is under the surface siding?

HardiePlank siding from James Hardie is installed after all existing siding is removed.  This allows for inspection of sheathing for rot and insect damage and correction of those problems if found.  Afterall, what good is new siding if it’s still hiding the same old problems?
